Introduction
Evolution items trigger evolutions for specific Pokémon in Polished Crystal. This guide covers all evolution items in the game, including where to find them and which Pokémon they evolve. Items are used either directly from your bag or held by a Pokémon while it levels up.

Evolution Methods
Direct Use Items
These items work instantly when used on the correct Pokémon from your bag. Evolution stones fall into this category.
Held Item Evolution
These items must be held by a Pokémon while it levels up to trigger evolution. The item is consumed during the evolution process, so you'll need a new one for each evolution.

Evolution stones are used directly from your bag to instantly evolve compatible Pokémon.
Fire Stone
The Fire Stone is an elemental evolution stone that evolves Fire-type Pokémon. Use it directly from your bag on compatible Pokémon to trigger their evolution instantly.

The Water Stone is an elemental evolution stone that evolves Water-type Pokémon. Use it directly from your bag on compatible Pokémon to trigger their evolution instantly.

The Thunder Stone is an elemental evolution stone that evolves Electric-type Pokémon. Use it directly from your bag on compatible Pokémon to trigger their evolution instantly.

These items work like evolution stones - use them directly from your Bag on the correct Pokémon to trigger evolution instantly.
Linking Cord
The Linking Cord is used like an evolution stone - select it from your Bag and use it directly on the Pokémon you want to evolve. It enables certain Pokémon to evolve without needing to be traded.
Note: This item only works on Kadabra, Haunter, Machoke, and Graveler. It does NOT work on Pokémon that require holding a specific item during trade (such as Slowpoke with King's Rock or Onix with Metal Coat) - those Pokémon evolve by leveling up while holding their respective items instead.

- Graveler (Alolan) → Golem (Alolan) when used on Alolan Graveler
- Haunter → Gengar when used on Haunter

Odd Souvenir
The Odd Souvenir is used like an evolution stone - select it from your Bag and use it directly on the Pokémon you want to evolve. It evolves certain Kanto Pokémon into their Alolan regional evolutions.

- Exeggcute → Exeggutor (Alolan) when used on Exeggcute
- Pikachu → Raichu (Alolan) when used on Pikachu

Held Item Evolutions
These items trigger evolution when held by a Pokémon during level-up. Make sure the Pokémon is holding the item before it gains a level - the item will be consumed when the evolution occurs.
Oval Stone
The Oval Stone is a held evolution item. When a Happiny holds this stone and levels up during the daytime, it will evolve into Chansey.

Razor Claw
The Razor Claw is a held evolution item for Sneasel. Each Sneasel form only evolves at specific times of day when leveled up and while holding this item.

- Sneasel → Weavile when leveled up while holding this item during nighttime
- Sneasel (Hisuian form) → Sneasler when leveled up while holding this item during daytime
Locations:
- Quiet Cave B2F as a visible item on the ground
- Wild Sneasel have a rare (5%) chance of holding this item. Note that Hisuian Sneasel don't hold Razor Claws
Razor Fang
The Razor Fang is a held evolution item. When Gligar holds this item and levels up during nighttime, it will evolve into Gliscor.

Hard Stone
The Hard Stone is a held evolution item that enables Scyther to evolve into its ancient form, Kleavor. It can also be held in battle to boost Rock-type moves.

- Wild Happiny have a common chance (50%) of holding this item
- Wild Corsola and Onix have a rare chance (5%) of holding this item
- Chance for this item to be found when smashing rocks
Trade Item Evolutions
These items enable evolutions that would normally require trading in other Pokémon games. In Polished Crystal, you level up a Pokémon while it's holding one of these items to trigger the evolution.
King's Rock
The King's Rock is a special evolution item for Poliwhirl and Slowpoke. When held during level-up, it enables these Pokémon to evolve into their royal forms. It can also be held in battle, where it has a 10% chance to make the opponent flinch when you deal damage.

- Poliwhirl → Politoed when leveled up while holding this item
- Slowpoke → Slowking when leveled up while holding this item
- Slowpoke (Galarian) → Slowking (Galarian) when leveled up while holding this item
Held Effect: When held during battle, attacks have a 10% chance to make the opponent flinch.

Metal Coat
The Metal Coat is a special evolution item that enables Onix and Scyther to evolve into their Steel-type forms. When held during battle, it also boosts the power of Steel-type moves by 20%.

- Onix → Steelix when leveled up while holding this item
- Scyther → Scizor when leveled up while holding this item
Held Effect: When held during battle, Steel-type moves have their power increased by 20%.

The Dragon Scale is a special evolution item that enables Seadra to evolve into Kingdra.

The Electirizer is a special evolution item that enables Electabuzz to evolve into Electivire. This device amplifies the electrical energy within Electabuzz's body.
